Snow White And The Waru And A Half Matific Monsters Production

This term we are doing a production at school. We have filmed the show and made it into a movie.   I am a narrator. The show is about a group of monsters (Lucy, Shae, Oscar, Jack T, Leon, Cody, Jack H and Lincoln that want to go to Hollywood and get in the Hall Of Fame. There is a Kind Queen ( Olivia C) who dies from eating KFC The Wicked Queen (Xanthe) wants to be the prettiest person ever and poisonous Snow White (Elizabeth) with a banana. There is a magic mirror (Cooper) who the Wicked Queen talks to. There is a Prince (Rhys) who comes in on a Horse (Olivia M) and kisses Snow White back to life.  There is also Mr Cowell (Liam) who watches the monster do a terrible audition. There is a Fairy Godmother (Kaya) who grants Snow White one wish. There is the Guards (Isaiah and Jack R) who give the Kind Queen a Burger. There is two Huntsman (Theo and Haki) who take Snow White into the woods. There is two Trees (Louis and Jasper) who are just trees. There is also one Rock (Ben) who is just a rock. There is a Bird (Sofia) who delivers a letter to Mr Cowell. There also two Narrators (Me and Jack S) who read parts of the story out.  Lastly there is Froggy (Connor) who is Snow Whites pet. We have been filming the show in the fort and on the green screen. We have a bunch of songs that different classes dance to. We have filmed the dances outside. We only have a few dances and one scene left to film. I like doing filming because I get out of doing some school work and it is fun to film. I can't wait to see how the movie turns out. Have you ever done a production? What were you in the production and did you like doing your production?

The Para Olympics

I really like watching the Para Olympics. It is cool to see people with different disabilities do different events in the Olympics. I like watching the running, swimming and long jump. I learnt that Sophie Pascoe has just won her tenth gold medal. She looks really good when she does her freestyle. Sophie only has half of one of her legs. It is amputated from the knee.

I just watched Danielle Aitchison do her hundred metre sprint.  She won her heat and qualified for the final.   Have you been watching the Para Olympics and what is your favourite event to watch?

My Lock Down Activities

One of the things that I do most often is go biking on the cycle trail or to the end of the golf course. We usually go to Greenies Grotto on the cycle trail. The first part is in the sun but the second is in the trees. I like the part in the trees best. We also go for walks and plays at the beach. I like looking for really white stones and funny shaped drift wood. My brother and I like playing in the sand dunes. Sometimes we make big holes near the water and when the water comes in it makes a pool. Then I jump the waves.  We do runs at the golf course and walks. I like finding golf balls. I love doing baking. I make decorated cookies, ANZAC biscuits and afgans. Me and my brother like bouncing on the tramp. Have you done the cycle trail before?

My Daffodil Day Creation

For Daffodil day I made some daffodils out of cupcake wrappers. First I got 2 different sized wrappers and coloured them in yellow and orange with crayon.  The next step I put some glue on the smaller cupcake wrapper and some added some coloured glitter.  Then I glued the smaller wrapper into the bigger one.  After that I taped a green coloured pencil and stuck it to the back of the wrapper to make a stem.   When i finished I put it in a glass to be a vase.  I enjoyed doing this and my family made some too.  They look.  Have you made daffodils out of cupcakes before or any other art from cupcake wrappers?

Crazy Hat Day

Today for lock down school we had to wear a crazy hat. I wore a hat from Vietnam. My mum got it when she went on holiday there. It is very fragile because it is made out of rice paper. When it catches the light inside the hat layers it shows pictures to make a story. There were lots of different hats on our google meet.  There were beanies, caps and some of them weren't even hats just things on there heads. We also have a challenge to make a one meter hat so people have to stay 1 metre apart in lock down.  This is what it looks like on me. Have you ever seen a hat like this?

Lock down

In lock down for school I have been doing cooking, some maths, some writing we also do lots of walks and bikes. I have been cooking ANZAC biscuits and Yoyos. They are super yummy. We have been biking down to the golf course and looking for golf balls. My brother found an angry bird sticker on a golf ball and mum found one in a tree. The worst thing about lock down is that you don't get to see your friends. The first few days we played games and did some reading and walks on the beach. When I was going for a walk on the beach it was really rough and I saw a seal. It was probably tired and came to shore to rest. This week we have to start doing hangouts and more schoolwork.  What do you like doing in lock down?

7 Amazing And Wet Falls

Last week my family went skiing with some friends. We went to Tekapo. First we went to Round Hill ski area. At Round Hill we went on the Poma. Then we got the half day pass to go on the T bar. The first time we got of half way.  I fell of the T bar lots of times. It was really fun. I went on the T bar with my Dad. I learnt how to go on a T bar. It was my first time. The next day we went to Dobson. At Dobson we went on the chair lift. That was my third time on a chair lift. Mum went into some powder and Finnian followed and got stuck. Dad had to get him out. We went to Round Hill again and me and Isla kept falling off the T bar. I had lots of fun and I got better a skiing.  I was lucky because I got a week off school.  I really enjoyed skiing and it was fun doing it with my friends.⛷ Have you been to Tekapo? Have you been on a chair lift?

The Olympics

This week for reading we are doing research about the Olympics and the people who are doing it this year or have done it before. We had to choose three people. I chose Peter Snell, Eliza McCartney and Lisa Carrington. I really liked doing this because I got to learn more about different people. I

I liked choosing the pictures. I found it hard to choose between all the people because there is so many and I would like to do all of them.  Do you have a favourite person that has been to the Olympics? What are there names and what do they do?

The Amazing Tree Art

Last week for art we made trees. We have been learning about Emily Carr. She is a Canadian artist. Her focus was trees and how they change over time. She was very talented and used lots of green and yellows. She paints trees and churches. Only a few of her pictures had people in them. She painted lots of paintings. They are all amazing. First I had to sponge the back round. I like the colours that I chose. Then I had to plan my tree on a scrap piece of paper. Then when I was happy with my plan I could paint. I really liked using the sponges. There were lots of colours to choose but I thought pink, purple and blue looked good. I also liked the yellow and orange. I am super happy with how my tree turned out.   Do you like her art? What is your favourite artist? What colours would you choose?

Flax Weaving

This week for Matariki we made Harakeke baskets. We have been learning about the Matariki culture and what Maori people do in the Matariki months. They sometimes weave baskets to hold there food. We are having a sausage sizzle. We weaved our baskets to put our sausages in. First we had to weave our flax pieces then fold the sides and make the handle. Once we made the handle we had to plait around it. Then there was still the ends. We had to use really skinny flax to tie the ends up. It is good to know why we celebrate Matariki. My basket was a bit big and not that tight. I think it was good for my first time. I would like to do another basket to try and improve.  Do you celebrate Matariki?

Tree Octopus

 How To Spot Fake News

This week for reading we are learning how to spot fake news. We had to read different stories and they were about a Tree Octopus. Then we had to write down the reasons why we can tell the story is fake. Firstly it was weird and the photo looked photo shopped. Secondly the article says that the Tree Octopuses are born in the water but when they get old enough the go onto land. Thirdly the picture is a normal octopus on the ground. Some articles can be a hoax. I really liked doing my poster and it got me thinking. Here is some tips about spotting fake news.  Did you already know how to spot fake news or is it new to you.? 🐙🌲

My Amazing Website

This week at school my class has been learning to make websites. It took me a few practices before I got good at it. I made a website about Dance and Drama. We do dance and drama at lunch time and since I made a site for it I can find the songs easily. My website is super helpful to have. First we had to make a title and insert a back round. Then we get to do some writing and insert videos. It was all new for me. You can make different pages. I like choosing the back round for my site. You can even publish it to the web. I published mine and if you search up tinyurl.com/KaniereDrama it will take you to my website.  Now I know how to make a website I am doing one on Pluto. (Not the dog) Have you ever made a website?  Did you have fun making one? 😃

The Amazing Cross Country

For Cross Country this year we did 4 laps which was 2200 meters. The course went from the field to the bike track, into the fort, back out, back in and onto the cycle track. I found the big hill that we had to go up hard because it was slippery and steep. I liked going though a muddy puddle. I came first in my group and now I get to go to Kumara and race. I love Cross Country. I was puffed at the end. I sprinted at the end and it was fun. Do you like doing it? 😃😀

Kaniere History

Last week we learnt about the history in the Kaniere area. We went on a website called West Coast Recollect. On the website we had to search up Kaniere and it came up with lots of different photos and a little bit about the photos. It even had the date. On Canva we had to put the photos on a poster. Then we had to write what the photos were doing. My poster turned out like this. I liked doing the writing and getting the photos. Do you know some stuff about your area's history?

Anzac War Letter

Because ANZAC is coming up we have been learning about the First World War.  Once we learnt more about the First World War we had to write a letter pretending to be a soldier telling them about what is happening in World War. We had to think about what it would be like to be a soldier. Now that we finished writing it on our computers we got to make a piece of paper look old. We got coffee and tea bags and spread it over a piece of paper. Then we put it on the deck to dry. Once it dried we wrote our story on the piece of paper. I think mine looks really good. I liked writing it on the piece of paper. What emotions would you feel if you were in war?

The Amazing Athletics

A few days ago my school had athletics. From school we caught the bus to Westland High School. We did lots of different events. The events we did were 80m, 50m, 1000m,  High jump, Long jump, Shot put and Discus. I really liked doing the running and high jump. I was tired after athletics because I did lots of different things. I had lots of fun with my friends. If you come 1st, 2nd or 3rd you go to districts. Which is all of the schools in your district. I am going to districts and I am really excited about it! Afterwards we did a beach clean up. We got given gloves and we picked up any rubbish that we saw. Our beach was very clean because we found not much rubbish. Then our parents picked us up. Do you know how to do discus? Do you enjoy doing athletics?

Passion Project

For reading this week I did a passion project about stranded whales. I found an article on Kiwi Kids News site. I found five more articles and found some answers for my questions.  Then Mr Abbott helped me make my small question into a big question. My question was how many speicies are there in New Zealand and what do they eat? I found out that there are different species of whales toothed and balateen whales. Whales usually strand because of sickness or old age. Have you ever done a passion project?

Simile And Metaphor Expert Renny!!!

This week my class is learning about similes and metaphors. A simile is a sentence that compares two different things using the words Like or As. A metaphor is comparing two things that are not alike NOT using Like or As.  Here is an example of a metaphor.  I was a cheetah in the running race. Here is an example of a simile.  I was as slow as a tortoise. We got to do a Kahoot afterwards to see if we remembered. I got all of the questions right. Have you ever done a Kahoot because I love doing them?

Explosions At Kaniere School!!!

This year we are going to be doing a rocket challenge .  Last year Mr Abbott did it with his class. This year we want to make the rockets go further than they did last year. We are trying to get as many 1.5 litre bottles and cardboard as possible to make the rockets. The bottle attaches onto a pump and the cardboard are the wings.  We are going to have to do some research on how to make them fly better. I am really excited about doing this. Mr Abbott has brought a camera to attach onto the rockets so we can watch what it would be like to be the rocket. Have you ever done this challenge? If you have how far did it go?🚀🚀🚀

The Amazing Clued Up Kids

My class went into town last Friday to the Boys Brigade hall to do 'Clued up Kids'. Clued up kids is a program to teach us about safety. There was the fire brigade, Safety around animals, Earthquake drills, St John, Train safety,  Police search and rescue, Safety around the kitchen and on quad bikes.  I liked the fire one the most because we got to crawl through an inflatable dark tunnel to show you how to get down and try and get out fast.  For the St John one we had to bandage our partner up. For a wound you put pressure and elevate.  We had to practise doing drop cover and hold so if we have an earthquake we know what to do. We got taught what not to do around horses. We also got to pat a horse. We learnt that trains take a while to stop so never run out on the railway track. I learnt about the tools that the search and rescue use. S.A.R stands for search and rescue. You have to be 17 + to volunteer to join the S.A.R. Some of the tools are a PLB- Personal Locater Becon. I learnt that you have to be 16+ to ride an adult size quad bike and always wear a helmet. For the kitchen safety we had to spot problems in the kitchen.  Have you ever done clued up kids or something like this?

The Big Trip My E-book Story

For writing we are doing E-books. We are using descriptive words to make our writing more interesting. We are also starting our stories of with something that will make the reader want to read it like Bang or Boom. We got to chose some photos to put on our E-book as well. I chose to make my E-book about animals.

Passport

This is my passport. I really like it because it is colourful. My favourite part was choosing the back ground. It tells you about my favourite things. We did this for our principal so she can  to get to know us better.  Have you ever done something like this?

Kawa Of Care Poster

This week we had a look at the Kawa of care rules. They were really boring so we made our own ones that were bright and interesting. We did our poster in pairs. I was with Kaya. We made our poster by using Canva. I liked choosing the different fonts.  Is there anything you think I could do to improve it? If there is what is it?

Blanket fort SLJ

This is a hut that me and my brother made for the summer learning journey.  Putting up the poles was the hardest part.  When we finished it was very cosy. Me and my brother liked putting the pillows in the tent. Then we had to do it again so it was in front of the TV so we could watch TV in the tent. I loved making the tent.
