The Amazing Athletics

A few days ago my school had athletics. From school we caught the bus to Westland High School. We did lots of different events. The events we did were 80m, 50m, 1000m,  High jump, Long jump, Shot put and Discus. I really liked doing the running and high jump. I was tired after athletics because I did lots of different things. I had lots of fun with my friends. If you come 1st, 2nd or 3rd you go to districts. Which is all of the schools in your district. I am going to districts and I am really excited about it! Afterwards we did a beach clean up. We got given gloves and we picked up any rubbish that we saw. Our beach was very clean because we found not much rubbish. Then our parents picked us up. Do you know how to do discus? Do you enjoy doing athletics?

Passion Project

For reading this week I did a passion project about stranded whales. I found an article on Kiwi Kids News site. I found five more articles and found some answers for my questions.  Then Mr Abbott helped me make my small question into a big question. My question was how many speicies are there in New Zealand and what do they eat? I found out that there are different species of whales toothed and balateen whales. Whales usually strand because of sickness or old age. Have you ever done a passion project?

Simile And Metaphor Expert Renny!!!

This week my class is learning about similes and metaphors. A simile is a sentence that compares two different things using the words Like or As. A metaphor is comparing two things that are not alike NOT using Like or As.  Here is an example of a metaphor.  I was a cheetah in the running race. Here is an example of a simile.  I was as slow as a tortoise. We got to do a Kahoot afterwards to see if we remembered. I got all of the questions right. Have you ever done a Kahoot because I love doing them?

Explosions At Kaniere School!!!

This year we are going to be doing a rocket challenge .  Last year Mr Abbott did it with his class. This year we want to make the rockets go further than they did last year. We are trying to get as many 1.5 litre bottles and cardboard as possible to make the rockets. The bottle attaches onto a pump and the cardboard are the wings.  We are going to have to do some research on how to make them fly better. I am really excited about doing this. Mr Abbott has brought a camera to attach onto the rockets so we can watch what it would be like to be the rocket. Have you ever done this challenge? If you have how far did it go?🚀🚀🚀

The Amazing Clued Up Kids

My class went into town last Friday to the Boys Brigade hall to do 'Clued up Kids'. Clued up kids is a program to teach us about safety. There was the fire brigade, Safety around animals, Earthquake drills, St John, Train safety,  Police search and rescue, Safety around the kitchen and on quad bikes.  I liked the fire one the most because we got to crawl through an inflatable dark tunnel to show you how to get down and try and get out fast.  For the St John one we had to bandage our partner up. For a wound you put pressure and elevate.  We had to practise doing drop cover and hold so if we have an earthquake we know what to do. We got taught what not to do around horses. We also got to pat a horse. We learnt that trains take a while to stop so never run out on the railway track. I learnt about the tools that the search and rescue use. S.A.R stands for search and rescue. You have to be 17 + to volunteer to join the S.A.R. Some of the tools are a PLB- Personal Locater Becon. I learnt that you have to be 16+ to ride an adult size quad bike and always wear a helmet. For the kitchen safety we had to spot problems in the kitchen.  Have you ever done clued up kids or something like this?
