The Olympics

This week for reading we are doing research about the Olympics and the people who are doing it this year or have done it before. We had to choose three people. I chose Peter Snell, Eliza McCartney and Lisa Carrington. I really liked doing this because I got to learn more about different people. I

I liked choosing the pictures. I found it hard to choose between all the people because there is so many and I would like to do all of them.  Do you have a favourite person that has been to the Olympics? What are there names and what do they do?

The Amazing Tree Art

Last week for art we made trees. We have been learning about Emily Carr. She is a Canadian artist. Her focus was trees and how they change over time. She was very talented and used lots of green and yellows. She paints trees and churches. Only a few of her pictures had people in them. She painted lots of paintings. They are all amazing. First I had to sponge the back round. I like the colours that I chose. Then I had to plan my tree on a scrap piece of paper. Then when I was happy with my plan I could paint. I really liked using the sponges. There were lots of colours to choose but I thought pink, purple and blue looked good. I also liked the yellow and orange. I am super happy with how my tree turned out.   Do you like her art? What is your favourite artist? What colours would you choose?

Flax Weaving

This week for Matariki we made Harakeke baskets. We have been learning about the Matariki culture and what Maori people do in the Matariki months. They sometimes weave baskets to hold there food. We are having a sausage sizzle. We weaved our baskets to put our sausages in. First we had to weave our flax pieces then fold the sides and make the handle. Once we made the handle we had to plait around it. Then there was still the ends. We had to use really skinny flax to tie the ends up. It is good to know why we celebrate Matariki. My basket was a bit big and not that tight. I think it was good for my first time. I would like to do another basket to try and improve.  Do you celebrate Matariki?

Tree Octopus

 How To Spot Fake News

This week for reading we are learning how to spot fake news. We had to read different stories and they were about a Tree Octopus. Then we had to write down the reasons why we can tell the story is fake. Firstly it was weird and the photo looked photo shopped. Secondly the article says that the Tree Octopuses are born in the water but when they get old enough the go onto land. Thirdly the picture is a normal octopus on the ground. Some articles can be a hoax. I really liked doing my poster and it got me thinking. Here is some tips about spotting fake news.  Did you already know how to spot fake news or is it new to you.? 🐙🌲

My Amazing Website

This week at school my class has been learning to make websites. It took me a few practices before I got good at it. I made a website about Dance and Drama. We do dance and drama at lunch time and since I made a site for it I can find the songs easily. My website is super helpful to have. First we had to make a title and insert a back round. Then we get to do some writing and insert videos. It was all new for me. You can make different pages. I like choosing the back round for my site. You can even publish it to the web. I published mine and if you search up tinyurl.com/KaniereDrama it will take you to my website.  Now I know how to make a website I am doing one on Pluto. (Not the dog) Have you ever made a website?  Did you have fun making one? 😃

The Amazing Cross Country

For Cross Country this year we did 4 laps which was 2200 meters. The course went from the field to the bike track, into the fort, back out, back in and onto the cycle track. I found the big hill that we had to go up hard because it was slippery and steep. I liked going though a muddy puddle. I came first in my group and now I get to go to Kumara and race. I love Cross Country. I was puffed at the end. I sprinted at the end and it was fun. Do you like doing it? 😃😀

Kaniere History

Last week we learnt about the history in the Kaniere area. We went on a website called West Coast Recollect. On the website we had to search up Kaniere and it came up with lots of different photos and a little bit about the photos. It even had the date. On Canva we had to put the photos on a poster. Then we had to write what the photos were doing. My poster turned out like this. I liked doing the writing and getting the photos. Do you know some stuff about your area's history?
